On the table

  • Either of you planning to make it to BlizzCon this year — in person, virtually, or skipping it?

Tier 6 Ritual Sites Drop Myth Crests in 12.0.7

Patch 12.0.7 unlocks a sixth tier of Ritual Sites that awards Mythic Dawncrests, plus a new multi-stage quest chain that walks players through every challenge variation.

  • Tier 6 is recommended for item level 270, but anyone who's been using their weekly Bonus Rolls should be at or near that threshold already, and groups can still tackle it under-geared. On top of normal rewards, completion now grants a small amount of Myth Dawncrest. There's also a new "Ritual Site Studies: Week 1 of 3" quest tied to an Advanced Ritual Site Studies achievement, which appears to funnel players through trying every challenge type. Follow-up quests haven't been datamined yet, but the Ritual Breaker title can still be earned through Pinnacle Ritual Work before Midnight wraps.

On the table

  • Have either of you been keeping up with weekly Ritual Sites, or is it one of those systems you grind in catch-up mode later?
  • If 12.0.7 is rewarding Myth crests from outdoor content, does that make Ritual Sites a real alternative to delve farming for vault upgrades?

Reserve the Arcantina for Your Own Private Party

As of Patch 12.0.5, players can pay Bartender Bob 5 gold to phase the Arcantina into a fully private version of the tavern — no other players, no NPCs, no quest givers — perfect for roleplay or small guild gatherings.

  • The private phase clears everyone from the tavern except Bob himself, who keeps serving food and drink. Group and raid members can opt into the same private instance by speaking to Bob individually, letting the tavern function as a real private meeting space. Consumables like Savory Deviate Delight and interactables like the Undermine Electrician's Practice Board still work, and rejoining the public phase is free — just talk to Bob again, or step out and back in. It's a small QoL feature, but as Wowhead points out, WoW has surprisingly few genuinely private gathering spaces outside of player housing, so this fills a niche for RP communities and small events.

On the table

  • Are either of you tempted to use this for guild events, or does it feel like a pure RP feature?
  • What's the most creative use of player housing — or now this private Arcantina — that you've seen the community come up with that you didn't expect?

Two Hotfix Rounds Plus Tank Tuning Coming May 12

Two waves of class and dungeon hotfixes hit on May 6 and May 8, and Blizzard has previewed a major tank tuning pass deploying with weekly maintenance on May 12 — buffing every tank except Brewmaster, with the stated goal of bridging the gap to the dominant Brew meta.

  • Hotfix highlights, May 6 and May 8: The May 6 round addressed a Restoration Druid bug where Tree of Life's duration wasn't tracked in the cooldown manager when talented into Reforestation, fixed Brewmaster threat generation for Flurry Strikes, patched several Affliction and Destruction Warlock issues including Wither failing to replace Corruption, and added clearer telegraphing for Latch's Heaving Yank in Windrunner Spire's Derelict Duo encounter. The May 8 follow-up fixed Mistweaver's Rushing Wind Kick heal failing intermittently, resolved the Voidspire raid skip teleport bug, and patched a Magisters' Terrace issue where Gemellus could stop using abilities mid-fight if a player died during Astral Grasp. Decor Duel groups can also now queue through the Group Finder.
  • The May 12 tank pass — passive mitigation and cooldown uptime:
  • Blood Death Knight: Improved Death Strike healing 5% → 15%; Dance of Midnight grants Dancing Rune Weapon 6s → 8s, proc rate 10% → 12.5%.
  • Vengeance Demon Hunter: Demonic Wards damage reduction 8% → 12%; Thick Skin stamina 50% → 55%; Mastery: Fel Blood +20% effective; Void Reaver Frailty DR 4% → 5%.
  • Protection Paladin: Sanctified Plates stamina 5/10% → 7/15%; Ardent Defender duration 8s → 12s and DR 20% → 30%; Sentinel duration 16s → 20s.
  • Protection Warrior: Fight Through Flames magic DR 4% → 6%; Phalanx 5% → 8%; Ignore Pain effectiveness +8%.
  • Brewmaster Monk: Notably absent — already considered overtuned in the current Mythic+ meta.
  • Stated goal: Blizzard says tanking has fallen behind their intentions for keeping up with incoming damage in Mythic+, and they want to "bridge the gap between tank specs."

On the table

  • Templri, you're tanking on us — how do these changes land for your spec specifically? Does this fix what's been frustrating you in higher keys, or is the gap between you and Brewmaster still going to feel obvious?
  • Buffing every other tank up to Brewmaster's level instead of nerfing Brew — is that actually healthier for the meta, or are we just inflating numbers across the board and trading one tuning problem for another?

Team Liquid Drops Midnight Season 1 RWF Documentary

Following their Midnight Season 1 World First, Team Liquid has released a behind-the-scenes documentary covering their players, community casters, and production staff through one of the more unusual races in recent memory.

  • Midnight Season 1 was a unique RWF for being split across three separate raids — The Voidspire, The Dreamrift, and March on Quel'Danas — and the race itself was a roller coaster. It started off oddly easy, dragged competitors through long, mind-numbing splits, then snapped into the genuine challenges, and capped off with a secret Mythic phase that surprised the guild and their competitors alike. The documentary leans into the humor and chemistry between teammates, which makes it a more engaging watch than the usual progression highlight reel — even if you watched the race live or already know the outcome.

On the table

  • Now that we're a few weeks out, has your read of how Midnight S1 played out as a competitive race changed at all?
  • The "secret Mythic phase" format clearly worked as a dramatic moment — should Blizzard build a surprise mechanic into every tier going forward, or does that trick only land once?

Microsoft's Record Quarter and First-Ever Buyout Program

Microsoft posted a record-breaking Q3 FY26 — $82.9 billion in revenue, up 18 percent — but the stock fell on a $190 billion capex guide for calendar 2026, and on April 23 the company opened its first voluntary retirement program in 51 years, targeting roughly 8,750 US employees.

  • The headline numbers and the capex problem: Operating income hit $38.4 billion (+20%), Azure grew 40% in constant currency, and the AI business surpassed a $37 billion annual run rate. But Xbox hardware revenue fell 33% year over year, total gaming revenue dropped $380 million or 7%, and CFO Amy Hood guided to roughly $190 billion in 2026 capex against a Wall Street consensus of $154.6 billion — about two-thirds of that going to short-lived assets, primarily GPUs and CPUs. Analyst Ben Reitzes had already downgraded Microsoft to Hold in February, telling CNBC he was "floored" that Copilot only had 15 million paid users after three years of promotion. Mizuho is now modeling negative free cash flow for 2027 and 2028.
  • The "Rule of 70" voluntary retirement program:
  • Eligibility: US employees at Level 67 or below, not on a sales incentive plan, whose age plus years of service equals 70 or more.
  • Scale: Roughly 8,750 people qualify — about 7% of Microsoft's US workforce.
  • Cost to Microsoft: Approximately $900 million one-time charge.
  • Timing: Notifications went out May 7 with a 30-day decision window.
  • Carve-outs: AI and Copilot teams reportedly exempt; gaming, including Activision Blizzard, was not exempted as a division.
  • Context: Same day, April 23, Meta announced 8,000 layoffs (10% of workforce) — making Microsoft's "voluntary" framing look more strategic than generous.

On the table

  • When the same company is reporting record profits and asking 7% of its US workforce to please consider retiring, how are we as players supposed to read that — is the buyout structural or cosmetic?
  • The Rule of 70 specifically targets long-tenured, mid-level senior workers — the demographic that tends to include senior game devs and QA leads. Does that worry you for Blizzard's institutional knowledge over the next 12 months?

GitHub Reliability Crisis Meets Xbox Leadership Shakeup

GitHub logged 257 incidents in 12 months and lost a high-profile veteran user who declared the platform "no longer for serious work." A week later, on May 5, new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma imported four CoreAI and GitHub leaders into the gaming org and confirmed Xbox is winding down its Copilot for Gaming initiative.

  • The GitHub side: GitHub's reliability has cratered as the platform absorbs explosive AI agent traffic. CTO Vlad Fedorov posted on April 29 that the company started a 10x capacity expansion plan in October 2025, then realized by February 2026 that it needed to design for 30x today's scale. Mitchell Hashimoto — GitHub user 1299, HashiCorp co-founder, and creator of the Ghostty terminal — pulled Ghostty off GitHub on April 28, writing that the platform "blocks you out for hours per day, every day." His post hit Hacker News at 3,000+ points. SemiAnalysis projects that Claude Code alone will author 20%+ of all daily GitHub commits by year-end.
  • The Xbox side: Asha Sharma — who took over Microsoft Gaming from Phil Spencer in February — restructured Xbox leadership on May 5, bringing in Jared Palmer (former CoreAI VP and senior VP at GitHub) as VP of engineering and technical advisor; Tim Allen (CoreAI/GitHub design VP) as head of design; Jonathan McKay (former head of growth for ChatGPT at OpenAI) as Xbox head of growth; and Evan Chaki and David Schloss in supporting roles. Veteran Xbox VPs Kevin Gammill and Roanne Sones are out or stepping back. Sharma also confirmed Xbox is winding down Copilot on console and mobile, publicly reversing one of Microsoft's loudest AI-in-gaming pitches of the past year.

On the table

  • If a senior VP at GitHub is being moved to Xbox a week after the platform's worst reliability stretch in years, what does that signal — promotion, demotion, or "we need someone to fix something here too"?
  • Microsoft is openly killing Copilot for Gaming while pushing AI everywhere else in the company — does that mean the AI-on-console pitch was just bad, or that Sharma is buying Blizzard and the rest of gaming some breathing room from the corporate AI push?
